Project Overton Manor, York

The adjoining barn of this farmhouse has been fully re-constructed to the highest specification of thermal performance and finish, while retaining its original appearance from the roadside.

In contrast to the modest traditional masonry vernacular of the roadside elevation, the inner facing elevation of the barn has been re-invented with a sharp board on board larch cladding, large single pane, high performance windows protected by aluminium brise soleil and new mill finished steel rainwater goods. A beautiful balance of contemporary and traditional.

The interior has been simply finished to a high standard with natural oak linings and detailing and complementary feature lighting, so it joins seamlessly with the existing house and extension.

Now used as a guest suite, the barn receives natural light throughout the year and attains exceptionally high standards of insulation which minimises its demand on the existing ground source heat pump.
